Save Babies From Premature Birth

as part of a national effort to save babiesfrom premature birth the march of dimes has designated november as prematurity awareness month.  november is dedicated to raising awareness about premature births while also raising funds for the march of dimes.

premature birth is the number one killer of newborns and more than half a million babies are born too early every year.  the premature babies that do survive are often disabled for life.

i love the march of dimes…why?…because they are leading the fight to defeat prematurity with a multiyear, multimillion-dollar national campaign to help the nation reduce the rate of premature births.  The goal is to reduce the rate of premature births from 12.1 percent in 2002 to the national healthy people 2010 objective of no more than 7.6 percent.  you can view your states report card here.  the state i live in got an "f."  beyond.sad.

Below are a few ways that you can get involvedin prematurity awareness (even if it's past november):

make a donation to the march of dimes.

shop to support the campaign.

volunteer your time for your local march of dimes chapter.

honor a child by creating a virtual band in honor or memory of a child, an organization, or even a baby on the way.

if you have been affected or touched by a premature birth share your story.

sign the petition for preemies that will urge the federal government toincrease support for prematurity-related research to help identify the causesof prematurity; test strategies for prevention of premature births; improve the care, treatment and outcomes of preterm infants and better define and track the problem of premature birth.

add a banner to your site to help spread the word.

i am asking all of us to help end premature births.  i can't do it alone.  i need help.  if you don't do it for me, do it for her.  i promise she will thank you one day.
